Committee meeting - Weds 29th Mar 2006

1 - This season

This has undoubtedly been our most successful season so far! At the time of writing, we are second in the league and in a cup semi-final, having only lost three times all season. The squad has been strong throughout and players have improved along with the team.

2 - Finances

Jez reported that our bank balance currently stands at £532.30 in credit with £197.85 debtors. Finances have been more positive than last season and there have only been one or two serious debtors within the club. These have been addressed in an inclusive manner. There are no plans for major kit or equipment purchase this summer.

3 - Committee Personnel

  • As Jez is to leave the club this summer, Martin and Andy will be the new bank signatories along with Sean. Jez will sort out paperwork from the bank and hand over at the end of the season.
  • Sean is happy to continue in his much-valued role as Secretary for one more season.

4 - Website

Will is happy to continue to run the popular Jossy’s Giants website, and Gaz will continue to write the match reports.

5 - Players

At times this season we have had a very large squad to choose from. This situation has had positive and negative effects, but mostly the former. We have lost Alex Brown and Brian Woods, but have gained Marc Patch, Rich Maiden and a backup keeper in Dave Coulthard. We are likely to lose between 3 and 5 players this summer (Jez, Steve, Marc, Woody etc) bringing us down to a squad of around 13 players. Each committee member has come up with suggestions of players that would be useful additions to the squad. These will be followed up over the next two months.

6 - Summer Activities

  • We have entered a five-a-side tournament in Wey Valley at the end of August and will need two eight-man squads. These will be chosen at random nearer the time with Gaz, Dicko or Andy acting as captains.
  • Jez and founder member Rob Cameron are trying to organise close season games between Jossys and Siemens Ireland in either Winchester or Cork.
  • Pre-season friendlies against The Brook, AFC Wyvern and others are also being considered.

7 - End of season gala

Our Gala evening is nigh and we are looking for suitable venues. The Ghurkha Chef, Winchester Guildhall, Balaka, and Savannahs are all being considered. Families and partners will be welcome this season. A date is to be set and invites sent out ASAP.

The following awards will be up for grabs:
  • Player of the Season
  • Goal of the Season
  • Most Improved Player
  • Golden Boot
  • Funniest Moment
  • Manager's Award
  • Captain's Award (NEW!!)
