Committee meeting - Monday 5th Jan 2004



1 - Review of Arrangements for Match Days (All)
  • It was decided to continue to arrive one hour before kick off, but to use the hour in a more constructive manner
  • Players on the bench will be told of this decision as soon as possible, as will those who are in the team
  • Kit will be given out immediately
  • There will be a briefing/team talk from Jez/Ant
  • There will be a warm up led by Olly/Dicko
  • Jez will run through set plays
  • Players will be asked to work in small groups to get a feel for the pitch and the ball
  • There will be a team talk after the game from Al/Nick
  • Al/Nick will handle all the paperwork/subs before the game

2 - Training (Jez)

 Training will be more focused from now on. There will be a warm up and some work on skills before a half hour game. All players are required to bring a football (pumped up), and must pay £4 to John Hyde on the night.


3 - Treasurer's Report (Nick)

 We have approximately £475 in the bank. We have approx £60 owed from unpaid Sunday subs, and we owe two lots of pitch fees. We have agreed to spend as detailed in the quartermasters report (see below). Sean will contact all our creditors as notified by Nick.


4 - Quartermaster's Report (Al)

 We are missing some shorts and socks and need match balls and bibs for training. A debate took place regarding the purchase of tracksuit bottoms for subs. It was decided that we would buy:-
  • 2 x black shorts (Jez)
  • 2 x pairs of white socks (Jez)
  • 3 x tracksuit bottoms (Jez)
  • 3 x blue training bibs (Jez)
  • 2 x new match balls (Al)
On match days, Al will ensure that the balls are usable and that they get there, if not by him, then by one of the Fair Oak contingent. Al also agreed to keep the away kit at his house.


5 - Squad Report (All)

 The committee felt that the club currently has a strong squad, but noted that with Dicko being more involved in his studies and with Jeremy and John both being expectant fathers, there might be a gap to fill at centre half very soon. We decided that we would solve this problem from within rather than actively look for a new centre half. We are pleased with the new additions to the squad (Olly and Andy) but noted that due to Sam Williams leaving we no longer had a centre forward with outstanding pace. The committee will look into this.


6 - Communication (Will)

 All Jossys are requested to assist Will with ideas for the website. Anyone can contribute articles and are asked to regard the website as the first place to look for Jossys information. It is important that the website is seen as a hub for everything Jossy related. It was agreed that Will will send out details of Sunday's game to the squad (once notified by Sean), and that Nick will send out weekly communication in his role as captain/manager. Minutes will be posted on the website ASAP after a meeting. Nick and Will have committed to talking more to players on a Sunday before and after the game (particularly regarding team selection).


7 - Fixtures for January (Sean)

 Sean provided us all with a list of fixtures for January and these have been posted on the website.


8 - Referees (Sean)

 We have been supplied with a referee for all our home games this month. The away games are not our responsibility.


9 - Social Report (Ant)

 The only social event planned is our end of season bash at the King Alfred. Ant is to contact all Jossys to ask what we should be doing for our mid-season event. Sean requested that all members of the squad get to the pub as often as they can and that they are press-ganged into going by a committee member in order to foster a sense of spirit within the squad that has recently been lacking.


10 - Chair's Report (Jez)

 Jeremy asked that everyone take note that after five straight defeats, we have now won three of our last four games. This has happened since the committee got their butts into gear at the beginning of November! It was felt that we should continue to move forward by focussing on where we want to be at the end of the season, and expressing this to the team. Ant and Jeremy will do this by giving a 'big-up' at training and on match days.


11 - AOB (All)

 Most AOB regarded a discussion about how to get the confidence back of certain players in the squad, and it was decided that we would do this by training in a different way and by supporting each other as much as possible.
